Umbis: Alien Invasion aka Not Human is a 2013 American science fiction horror film directed by Adam R. Steiger (The Horrible and Evil Monsters; Fang) to a screenplay co-written with Jane Avery, Terry Kimmel, Mark Mendola and Michael Shabarrasi. 388 Classics-Defton Pictures Studios presents Richard Satterwhite, Jason John Beebe, Sarah Manzella and Alexander S. McBride.

Metzburg is a quiet village, once an industrial town, whose glory days are over since the demise of Metzburg Grain. Teenager Mark Lowe (Jason John Beebe) and his ex-girlfriend Lucy Greenhart (Sarah Manzella) become embroiled in a love feud when a meteor falls on a passive community. Glen (Robert Bozek), a former granary worker rendered homeless by the collapse of the mills, encounters a fiery disaster.

Unaware that his discovery could be dangerous, he gets too close and the chemical poison shoots out of the meteorite and envelops him. A chemical called Umbis begins to turn his intestines into a sticky substance. Unable to stop the spread of infection, Glen runs into the street where Mark and Lucy find him.

Mark and Lucy are shocked by their gruesome discovery and immediately contact local sheriff Thomas Brackett (Richard Satterwhite), who has a date with beautiful waitress Daisy (Kathy Murphy). When their date is interrupted, they help the traumatized lovebirds. With no sign of the creature or its victims, Brackett dismisses Mark’s fantastic story…..

Umbis: Alien Invasion is a success in that it was made with the general competence that not all independent films offer, with minimal funding and a volunteer crew.  Given the obstacles, it is not an easy task to accomplish such a feat.  Still, the entertainment value of this film is solely for fans of cult horror and pulp films. There’s no man having fun. AMR loves infections and mucus, but humans don’t have both in abundance. There are also some interesting scenes, such as when the mayor’s hand is infected and the sheriff has to remove it in a decidedly untechnical and unsanitary manner. The makeup effects are excellent for a low-budget indie project, and the actors are fun to watch. Really terrible movies.

Nemesis looks like a man in a suit, and the alien slime looks like lime jelly or toy store-bought slime, depending on the scene. The practical effects on infected citizens range from good to a rather obvious green latex. The quality of the CGI also varies, but it often looks like it was done in a very […] Ombis : Alien Invasion may be a little rough around the edges, but the enthusiasm and love for the genre it’s set in shines through.
