Disney’s classic animated musical The 101 Dalmatians is coming to the big screen soon, and EW has the first look at Cruella de Vil (Emma Stone) in live action. The momentous occasion comes courtesy of director Glenn Ficarra and screenwriter John Requa, who are also behind the live-action remake of Dirty Dancing, which stars Patrick Swayze.

Are you ready to fall in love with Cruella de Vil? The iconic villain from famous Disney film “101 Dalmatians” is getting her own live-action movie and the role is being casted by none other than Emma Stone.

An exciting update on this project is that it’s now in the hands of Emma Stone, who will be playing the lead role in a live action version of this beloved story. The film will be directed by Kelly Marcel, whose previous credits include the hit TV show Empire. (Stone was also rumored to appear in the remake, but it’s unclear if she will be portraying the villain or the main character.). Read more about 101 dalmatians and let us know what you think.

I really need to set it up a bit to show it.

If the number of viral pandemics, or what we’ve all been hiding from for the past year, continues to decline, California will reopen and I’ll be able to move some of my VickiTube streaming services from my home studios here in Condo Maine to one location.  I’ve asked Captain Drew to helm the boat for a new limited series about renovating and remodeling a beachfront home for middle America to enjoy.  We’ll look at how to choose saltwater-resistant paints and finishes for cabin interiors, how to install a hot tub on the deck, and how to have your chef prepare luxurious meals in a color palette that does justice to both the interior and your wardrobe – common challenges for the average American home.  Leah, my consumer genius, suggested hiring Chip and Joanna as speakers and design coordinators. So I asked Joseph, my manager, to call New York immediately to book Chip Zien and Joanna Gleason, and I wrote out a little contest among my songwriters to make a little In the Boat jingle as a theme song, to see if they’d be interested in coming on board, so to speak.

We also begin a production of the new show Diners, Drive Ins and Divas with a restaurant review in which you and my friends discover interesting culinary sensations.  I hired a new intern, Phoebe, to help me find small, interesting locations where we could set up a small, incognito film crew – no more than eight or ten people with a few drones to film convincingly from the air.  I’m going to do an opening episode at a Scottish location.  McDougalls, McDouglas… something like that, and later in the episode, Norma Desmond goes to a place called Chick Filo, where they presumably serve some kind of chicken baklava.  I look forward to sharing my incredible knowledge of haute cuisine with all my wonderful viewers.  VickiTube continues to gain subscribers and has already reached triple digits.

I didn’t spill a drop.

Of course, the most important thing about the change in health care is that I could leave my exquisite home, take the elevator down and go see a movie at the local multiplex.  A good friend and his wife (I won’t mention their names, but they are actors of nobility) rented one of the screens for this anniversary so that a carefully selected group of perfectly sophisticated people could enjoy the new genesis of Cruella, the Disney villain. I could tell we were all vaccinated, because the number of hugs we exchanged showed the magnetic effect of the vaccine.  We rejoiced as a group by paying the equivalent of a small house for our traditional movie snacks and rushed to the theater to enjoy the movie.  Admittedly, I added a bit of Grey Goose to my peach Fanta from my new Kate Spade field bottle.  After all, you have to be in the right mood for the movie.

Cruella is the story of the creation of Cruella de Vil, the villain from the Disney film 101 Dalmatians.  Disney adapted the story several times, first as a cartoon in the early 1960s and then as a live-action film in the mid-1990s, starring Glenn Close as a black-and-white hairy diva.  In Dodie Smith’s original novel, Cruella is portrayed as a slender, elegant patrician goddess, but when Disney transferred this trait to film, they used a tall, slender Mary Wickes as a model and the moves and mannerisms of Tallulah Bankhead, making her more violent and less attractive.

In this story, we first meet Cruella as Estella’s child, who is convinced of her own genius and has a strong desire to become a fashion designer.  With her half black, half white hair not doing well at school, she and her sainted mother (Emily Beecham) decide to move to London so Estella can follow her dreams.  But the quick trip ends tragically and Estella ends up alone in London, where she is adopted by two street children, Jasper and Horace. Ten years have passed and Estella (Emma Stone), Jasper (Joel Frye) and Horace (Paul Walter Hauser) have become a dysfunctional family that steals, burgles and lives together in a run-down loft.

Emma Stone looks perfect for Punk with Cruella’s signature hairstyle.

Estella wants to break into the fashion world and takes a modest job in the famous department store Liberty, where she dreams of reviving old fashion.  She can’t take it anymore and takes matters into her own hands. She attracts the attention of the Baroness (Emma Thompson), the fashion queen, who ruthlessly welcomes Estella into her studio.  Estella, treated unfairly by the Baroness, vows to break her and steal her fame and reputation and invents her alter ego, Cruella, who takes the London fashion world by storm with her punk aesthetic. Various betrayals, revelations and life changes take place, and by the end of the film, Estella has been replaced by the cold, cruel and calculating Cruella, and all the details of the original 101 Dalmatians story are in place.  (And I can imagine another remake with this cast…).

The film has a number of merits.  It was a brilliant choice to move the time period from the 50s/early 60s to the mid-70s and have Cruella and her friends embody the punk movement and attack the public shibboleths.  All of this is supported by an absolutely stunning soundtrack of pop hits from the 70s in a variety of styles, adding style and pathos to the various settings, from chaotic parties to fashion shows and montages recounting the adventures of different characters.

It was a hit, too, earning $207 million at the global box office. A sequel is currently in the works, and an important question remains: Who will play Cruella De Vil?.
